Montgomery police are investigating a fatal crash in which an adult male pedestrian was struck at 8:14 p.m. Friday near Eastern Boulevard and I-85 — he was pronounced dead at the scene and the vehicle driver was not injured.

Montgomery firefighters responded to a house fire at 5:41 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Oak and Ridgecrest streets near I-65 and quickly put out the flames without injury as investigators work to determine the cause.

A man was arrested on Friday night in Montgomery after deputies responded to a shooting on Atlanta Highway—19-year-old King Walker was taken into custody at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $90k bond and faces charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied building.

A historical marker has been placed at the old offices of the Southern Courier in Downtown Montgomery to honor its role in covering civil rights events.
