CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery police arrested 22-year-old Zachery McQueen after he fired into an officer's vehicle on the night before today—officers returned fire during a brief foot chase and charged him with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and he is now held at the county detention facility. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, a federal judge ordered Alabama lawmakers to redraw the state Senate map—including a new majority-Black district near Montgomery—after ruling that the current map lessened Black voters' influence under the Voting Rights Act. Lawmakers will soon propose new lines ahead of the 2026 elections while Gov. Kay Ivey reviews the decision. WSFA 12
- ➤ Secretary of State Wes Allen urges Alabama voters to visit AlabamaVotes.gov to check their registration and polling locations before municipal elections on August 26—polls will open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and voters must present a valid photo ID. Elmore Autauga News

- ➤ Yesterday, the Montgomery Catholic Knights faced the Saint James Trojans in a high school football game as the Fever 2025 season began. The Montgomery Catholic Marching Knights led the band performance and energized local fans. WSFA 12
- ➤ College football returns to Montgomery today when Mercer meets UC-Davis at Cramton Bowl at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN. Streets around the venue will be closed by 6:00 a.m., shuttles will start at 2:00 p.m., and gates will open at 4:00 p.m. — fans are advised to check transit details. WAKA 8
- ➤ High school football restarted this week as teams began week 1 of the season—Thursday and Friday night games kicked off the action, and WSFA Sports will cover all the play with live highlights and shows. WSFA 12
